When it comes to the choice of the best running shoes, do not get carried away by TV or print commercials. Especially when you are or intend to be running for the long term, do not leave the choice of what is best for you to the marketing gurus. Instead, consider what is known as the wet shoe test in order to buy the best shoes for your feet.
What does the wet shoe test measure? All it does really is to determine if you are flat-footed or not. Your trainer can do it for you, or would have done so you already have an idea what it is all about. If not, you can pay a podiatrist a quick visit. The visit will not only give your feet the chance to be diagnosed for any trouble, the podiatrist might even recommend some corrective devices you can use. This gives you the chance to use your health insurance card. Most employee health insurance plans carry this benefit so you just might get these gadgets for free (arch support is one example).

If you have normal feet (translation: not flat), your best bet is running shoes with stability and mild control features. Stability shoes are the keywords here. Your feet are biomechanically efficient, that is why.
If you have yourself flat feet you are not in trouble, do not worry! All you need is a good pair of running shoes that can correct the handicap. You do not have to stop running altogether. What you need are motion-control shoes with firm midsoles which eat away at the degree of pronation.
