Surfing Equipment

A beginner’s surfing equipment always begins with a great choice of a surfboard. You can have as many accessories as you want but if you do not have the surfboard that is right for you, you are toast on the beach. So hold off on buying a sexy pair of boardshorts or wet suit until you have the surfboard part all figured out.
The rule of thumb with surfboards is the wider or the bigger, the better. The more amateur you are with the sport, the bigger your main surfing equipment will have to be. Do not be shy about it. Be honest with yourself. Which one is better? Carrying a humongous surfboard around or always falling off from the board at the first sign of a wave? Eight feet is okay, but 9.6 feet are even better!
Here is another word of advice to help you assemble the ideal surfing equipment. Do not invest on designer or branded gear all at once. Who knows if you will like the sport in the long run? Play around with a cheaper or more cost-effective equipment at first. If after trying the sport for a couple of months makes you feel like it is a long-term love affair, then it is time to invest serious money into it. Do not be like the beginning golfer who tends to buy all the designer gear, only to let the equipment rot in the attic after a month or two.
You will also need a good surfboard leash to go with the rest of your surfing equipment. Find yourself an excellent surf wax unless that board of yours has a deck grip. Of course, a great wetsuit will be necessary if you are surfing on cold waters constantly, but if not, consider spending your money on several pairs of boardshorts. Some people, though, look sexier on wet suits so we will leave the choice entirely up to you–so long as you have a great reason for doing! Just make sure you do not end up looking overdone on the beach.
